On the Web, usability is a necessary condition for survival. If a website is difficult to use, people leave. If the homepage fails to clearly state what a company offers and what users can do on the site, people leave. If users get lost on a website, they leave. If a website's information is difficult to read or doesn't answer users' key questions, they leave. See a pattern here? There's no such thing as a user reading a website manual--trying to figure out an interface. There are plenty of other websites to visit, and leaving is the first line of defense when users encounter a difficulty.
In all cases, lack of usability can cost time and effort, and can greatly determine the success or failure of a system. Given a choice, people will tend to visit websites that are more user-friendly. |

We train your staff how to effectively write for the internet. Below is an excerpt of a recent usability study conducted on the topic of Web Writing:
Studies of how users read on the Web found that they do not actually read: instead, they scan the text. A study of five different writing styles found that a sample Web site scored 58% higher in measured usability when it was written concisely, 47% higher when the text was scannable, and 27% higher when it was written in an objective style instead of the promotional style used in the control condition and many current Web pages. Combining these three changes into a single site that was concise, scannable, and objective at the same time resulted in 124% higher measured usability.
